This
is a great fundraiser! All proceeds from the sale go right back into the community
as scholarships and needy causes. Here Miggs Carter and Frank Jaggers are selling
candy during December at the Center Avenue location.
The Kiwanis Club volunteers for Loaves and Fishes the first Monday of every
month.
We
prepare and serve hot meals to feed anybody who would like to partake, especially
the homeless. One of
the
pleasures is having the opportunity to work with other volunteer groups to help
prepare and serve. The photo on the left was taken on July 3, 2006 with Linda
Thurman and Scott Parker along with members of the Lamorinda Chapter of the
National Charity League. It was a pleasure to work with this organization.
On the right, Scott Parker, Carol Babcock (chief person in charge!), Jim Allen and Linda Thurman help serve.

Twice
each year, our Club assists Alhambra High School in conducting a Red Cross Blood
Drive. It's a great opportunity to talk to some of the young adults.

During
Elections/Voting, we work the Precincts as Election Officers and Clerks. All
of us have gone through the training and we currently supply enough manpower
to work three precincts. All compensation goes to the club as a fundraiser,
while helping out in the community.

At
Easter, we conduct an Easter Egg Hunt for the Martinez children. This is a fun
event!
On left, Herb Thurman appears to be pocketing a egg while the children are looking for it!

The
Pasta Feed is a joint Kiwanis/Rotary fundraiser held the evening prior to the
Fun Run. This event raises money for the Martinez Educational Fund. This year,
total proceeds were $35,000 according to the Martinez News-Gazette and the food
ain't bad!

Approaching
Thanksgiving, our crew of volunteers lurk outside of designated supermarkets
(where turkeys are sold on a buy one, get one free basis) asking patrons for
donations to the Contra Costa Food Bank.
Here Scott Parker (notice the clip board - a sign of someone who is very important), Herb Thurman, Maury Huguet, Cliff Egan and Linda Thurman doing their "thing".
In the past, we've supported the following events:
Bike Parade
Cancer Walk
Habitat for Humanity
Martinez Relays
Meals on Wheels
Alhambra High School Homecoming Parade
Special Olympics
Warm Coat Drive
In addition, we provide Academic and Vocational Scholarhips to Alhambra High
School students.
